Technically, the water in Anaheim, California is potable: safe to drink.
According to Anaheim Public Utilities website:
Yes. Anaheim’s tap water quality exceeds all health standards established by the United States Environmental Protection Agency and California Sate Department of Water Resources. Additional treatment is not needed prior to drinking Anaheim tap water.
That does not mean that drinking the water in Anaheim is an enjoyable experience.
Sure, maybe if you’ve lived in Anaheim your whole life, the water tastes normal to you.
If you want to see what visitors to Disney Land think of the water, you can read their responses on the Disney Discussion Forum.
So, if you’re visiting, you’ll probably want to buy bottled water.
However, if you’re a resident or future resident, then you should consider the benefits of a home water filtration system.
Why does the water in Anaheim taste funky?
Well, in North and Central Orange County, the water comes from a mixture of sources.
According to the Orange County Water District (OCWD), the majority of the water comes from the Orange County Groundwater Basin. However, that water supply has to be refilled from other sources.
Rainfall, melting snow, treated waste water & water imported from the Colorado River and Northern California are used to replenish the O.C. Groundwater Basin.
We’re not talking about a 50/50 blend here. Rather, it’s about 75% from the underground basin and 25% from other sources. At least, that holds true for North and central O.C.
That other 25% is managed by the Metropolitan Water District of Southern California (MWD).
